The Runners Burrito

Writer's picture: Ben GerkinBen Gerkin

Growing up on the border of Mexico, we know a few things about burritos. We eat great Mexican food all the time, but the worst thing ever is eating a spicy burrito before a run. Not a pretty site during or after that run (I'm sure you could imagine). We found a way to enjoy a burrito that is the perfect fuel for a long run or workout. This burrito has now become my pre-race go to food and heck I even take it as a snack for my lunch at work!!

This is the Runners Burrito: and how to get your hands on it:

Super Simple and easy to make, here is the recipe:

1 Whole Wheat Tortilla

2 Tbsp Peanut Butter/ Almond Butter

1 tsp honey

10 dark chocolate chips

1/2 sliced banana

Place ingredients on tortilla as shown above. Wrap into burrito shape as seen below:

Best thing about this burrito is that it is super quick and easy to make. Make enough for a long weekend hiking/running and keep them in your pack. These burritos taste great and are healthier than the alternative sources of nutrition. I have used these as a quick aid station food during ultramarathons, etc. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below.
