How many of you have gone through a great build-up to a race. Raced your heart out and then feel less than motivated to get out the door for the upcoming weeks. After finishing a 55K a few weeks ago and this feeling hit me hard. I have had this in the past, but usually following an injury or something else along those lines.
I have had a nagging knee injury off and on for the past year or so and this had flared up a little during this race and the days after. I still made it out the door for a few shuffles and short mileage days, but never really got my mojo to do anything more. I have another shorter race coming up back in my home town, the Bisbee Stair climb, If you've never heard about it before click the link above. (It's an awesome 4.5 mile road course that climbs multiple stair cases and over 1000 stairs.) Having a race on the calendar is usually all the fire I need to crank up the gears and keep shredding. This time was different, but I found some thing that worked! I drive myself crazy if I'm not able to be active and running just wasn't in the cards this week. I decided a cross training week (or two) was in order. After taking a few hikes on my favorite mountains here in So AZ, along with some biking and a little rock climbing. Sometimes all you need is a little walk in the park to reset the battery, I guess!!
Today was the day, all of the sudden the light flip switched. I had a sudden surge of energy while doing some stair repeats prepping for the race this weekend. This was followed by a 7,000 meter row and now the fire is back. Off to go sign up for more races!! Feels good to be back, gotta build that 2017 schedule!! Any must do races that are must do's for 2017? Let me know in the comments!!
